Renewable Heat Policy & Technology: Integrating Solar & Geothermal Technologies

Type: Workshop

When:  January 31st, 2013
Where:  Hart House, University of Toronto (Ontario)

Canada’s industry associations for heat pump and solar technologies - the Canadian GeoExchange Coalition (CGC) and the Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA) announced a first joint workshop to explore technical and policy options for Canadian renewable heating and cooling. The UK’s Foreign Commonwealth Office is providing funding support; national level policymakers from the United Kingdom and Canada have been invited to present.

Highlights to include:

  • Penny Dunbabin, Senior Scientific Officer from the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change on the subject of the Renewable Heat Incentive (the world's first Feed In Tariff for thermal energy).
  • Government of Canada representation
  • Five technical presentations from industry practitioners with case studies of operational solar/geo-hybrid projects.
  • Networking all day including at a Cocktail Reception.

Thank you to all registrants, sponsors including Groundheat International and UK Trade & Investment, and to participants.  A very successful day for this sector has developed many questions and an interest in continuing our joint CGC – CanSIA work.  We will be in touch with you in the coming months about webinars and another in-person meeting in 2014, as well as other activities.

If you wish to review, you may download .pdf copies of the presentations.

Thank you again to all who attended and supported this critical and at times fascinating conversation.
