NOVA SCOTIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO OFFER GEOEXCHANGE TRAINING

Montreal, February 19, 2010

Montréal, February 19, 2010 – The Canadian GeoExchange Coalition (CGC) is pleased to announce a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC). As a result of this MOU, NSCC has incorporated new online courses within its School of Trades and Technology.  Geothermal: Energy Exchange Installation is already being offered and later this year the College will accept applications for Geothermal: Designer, Residential.  These courses will be recognized by CGC as fully industry-equivalent training for individuals applying for their geoexchange installer accreditation under the CGC Global Quality GeoExchangeTM Program.

“Every time a college signs up to be part of the CGC’s national market transformation initiative, we collectively make a step forward towards a wider recognition of geoexchange technology as a growing heating and cooling option for consumers. This MOU with NSCC is significant as its online delivery makes this training accessible province-wide. I salute the leadership of the College and look forward to welcoming NSCC graduates into the geoexchange industry,” said Denis Tanguay, CGC’s President & CEO.

The geoexchange training programs offered at NSCC will contribute to industry growth and further reinforce the training cohesion that is already established in the Maritimes. Online training will be available to participants anywhere with high speed internet access.

“The demand for skilled graduates who understand alternative energy systems continues to climb,” said Ron Farrell, Dean of NSCC’s School of Trades and Technology.  “Working with CGC to offer standardized, industry-approved training enhances opportunities for our graduates and provides industry with a growing number of potential employees with the advanced skills they’re looking for.”

CGC made an early commitment of transferring its training courses to colleges and institutes of technology across Canada as part of a market transformation effort to build a strong and professional geoexchange workforce in all provinces and territories. Once colleges/institutes have adopted and incorporated CGC training standards into their curriculum, CGC fully recognizes the students trained by those institutions as industry-equivalent. In return, colleges bring into the equation their valuable training expertise as well as linkages with the broader academic community.

The Canadian GeoExchange Coalition acts as the industry catalyst to unite private and public sector stakeholders, and to expand the market for geoexchange technology in Canada. As the nexus of information, training, certification, industry standards and public awareness, our mandate is to work with stakeholders to build the necessary infrastructure to foster the growth of the Canadian geoexchange industry.
