Montréal, June 22, 2010 – The Canadian GeoExchange Coalition congratulates the 2010 winners of the 4th GeoExchange Excellence awards. The prizes will be awarded at a series of independent events in the coming months. The winner of the Leadership award will be announced in Montréal on November 15, 2010 at the 4th National GeoExchange Technical & Policy Forum.
In total, 12 applications were submitted and pre-selected though a number of technical criteria including:
-innovation, originality and complexity of the work in relation to the building use;
-technical difficulties encountered / solved in the project; demonstrated energy savings;
-to what extent the project influences building design in Canada and a more extensive use of geothermal energy;
-whether the project forms part of a global energy efficiency plan; and
-comfort for occupants and users.
Prizes of Excellence were awarded to:
-GeoSource for The Southwind Development
-CleanEnergyTM for The Banff Upper Hot Springs
-Dessau inc. for Palais de justice de Cowansville
An honourable mention from the Jury was awarded to:
-Teknika-HBA for Centre intégré de formation et d’innovation technologique de Victoriaville
An independent jury of energy experts agreed to manage the selection process:
-Cara Clairman, Vice President, Sustainable Development, OPG
-Ken Elsey, President & CEO, Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance
-Victoria Smith, Manager Aboriginal & Sustainable Communities, BC Hydro
