CGC Starts Delivering Geothermal Loop Installation Course

2012-05-14, Montréal

The Canadian GeoExchange Coalition (CGC), Canada’s national industry association for geothermal heat pump technology, announced a new geothermal loop installation course today. Over the next four days, a cohort of twelve workers from drilling companies in Québec will take the course and write a CGC examination. In the upcoming weeks, two more courses will take place. The course is available in both French and English.

CGC Publishes Commercial Designer Accreditation

The Canadian GeoExchange Coalition (CGC) released a new geothermal quality
program designation for commercial geothermal heat pump system designer today. This latest CGC accreditation for industry specialists recognizes adequate training and field experience of industry professionals, and responds directly to industry and member requests. Accreditations for residential system installers (675) and residential designers (500) have been awarded since 2007.Read more

Canada to Host the 11th International Energy Agency Heat Pump Conference

The Canadian GeoExchange Coalition (CGC) has been awarded the organization of the 11^th International Energy Agency Heat Pump Conference (IEA-HPC). The prestigious world-industry conference, organized every three years under the auspices of the IEA Heat Pump Programme, will be held in Montréal in Spring 2014. The IEA Heat Pump Programme Executive Committee, made up of one representative from each of fourteen member countries, decided the location in Atlanta (US) on November tenth.

CGC Bursary Winners Announced

Five Masters and PhD candidates engaged in original post-graduate studies related to geothermal heat pump technology have been awarded a combined total of $27,500 under the 2011 CGC Bursaries program. The winners are studying at five universities in Québec, Ontario and British Columbia.

CGC Announces the Winners of the 5th Annual GeoExchange Excellence Awards

The Canadian GeoExchange Coalition (CGC) heartily congratulated the 2011 winners of the 5th GeoExchange Excellence Awards here tonight. The prizes for Excellence are awarded to regional geothermal heat pump projects which showcase both complexity and quality of installation and design. This year, CGC bestowed awards for projects in three regions: Québec, Ontario and British Columbia. There were no entries for Atlantic Canada or the Prairies. CGC Invests $10,000 in St. Lawrence College Foundation

The Canadian GeoExchange Coalition today proudly announced that its board of directors have approved a one-time $10,000 contribution to the St. Lawrence College Foundation. The gift will be used to establish an endowed bursary fund in support of a Canadian GeoExchange Coalition Scholarship at the College. This contribution will be endowed and matched by the Ontario government through the Ontario Trust for Student Support initiative. The resulting $20,000 endowment is expected generate an annual award of $1,000 for a student studying in the College’s new Geothermal Engineering Technician program. The contribution was officially remitted during an awards dinner at the CGC annual conference in Markham.

Vice President Ted Kantrowitz to Chair National Renewable Energy Initiative

Canada’s Electricity Sector Council today confirmed that CGC Vice President Ted Kantrowitz will chair the Steering Committee for its new Building Bright Green Futures (BBGF) initiative. The steering committee, made up of representatives from key Canadian industry stakeholders including associations, employers, unions, utilities and educational institutions, will oversee a comprehensive human resources study of the renewable energy industry.

Holland College Pens MOU with Canadian GeoExchange Coalition

The Canadian GeoExchange Coalition (CGC) today announced the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Holland College, to offer CGC training in Prince Edward Island. As a result of this MOU, Holland College will incorporate CGC’s Installer and Residential Design courses into their curriculum giving graduates a nationally recognized training in clean energy heating and cooling. Upon successful completion of the college courses and CGC examinations, graduates can then apply for CGC accreditations.
