Direct Expansion Geoexchange Systems now Qualify for the ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes Program

Geothermal Direct Expansion System Eligibility 

 

 

Direct expansion (DX) systems are now included in the revised Canadian Standards Association (CSA) CAN/CSA-C448 Design and Installation of Earth Energy Systems as of October 20, 2009.  

DX systems are now eligible under the ecoENERGY Retrofit –Homes program provided that the CSA-C448 compliant system is installed on or after October 20, 2009 and is certified by Canadian GeoExchange Coalition (CGC). Regardless of the date of the ecoENERGY Retrofit evaluation, DX systems will be eligible for the geothermal grant if they comply with the above criteria.  

 

The list of accredited installers, designers, and drillers is available on the CGC website under public registry at: http://www.geo-exchange.ca/en/accreditations_search.php. The CGC has also updated its geothermal certification form to include DX systems. The form is attached and can also be found on CGC website mentioned above.  

Last week, the CGC expanded its Global Quality GeoExchange Program^® to incorporate direct expansion (DX) technology as of October 20, 2009. This change to the Canadian quality program follows the publication of an amendment to Standard CAN / CSA C-448-02 (C-448) by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). This amendment was the direct result of CGC’s work in developing seed documents and executing national consultations over the course of three years. 

CGC will review residential DX systems across Canada for compliance with the amended standard, and certify these systems in accordance with the terms and conditions of the quality program. CGC would like to remind industry stakeholders and customers that CGC has never offered system certification retroactively and therefore cannot offer retroactive DX system certification. An updated and amended CGC System Certification application, including revised drilling report form, is available at this time on www.geoexchange.ca.
